Author Event: Jenny Rose Carey

Jenny Rose Carey will be speaking on the historical significance of the Harston Estate and their gardens. Located in Springfield Township, the gardens were designed in 1909 by the important landscape designer, Beatrix Farrand, the only female founder of the American Landscape Architects, for the recently built country estate of Mr. Henry Frazer Harris and his wife Virginia Johnston Harris.

These gardens have unfortunately disappeared long ago with the mansion still standing on the property of a nursing facilty. The adjacent 5-acre one hundred plus year old woodland also still stands. However, scores of stunning mature native trees and the historic carriage and gate house are under threat of development. A local 501(c)3 non-profit, Springfield Open Space, hopes to bring awareness to the beauty and history of this property and to work towards solutions to protect and preserve them.

The Ultimate Flower Gardener’s Guide

The Ultimate Flower Gardener’s Guide gives home gardeners the confidence they need to create the flower-filled garden of their dreams.

Jenny Rose Carey proposes a holistic approach to flower gardening with a refreshing twist. Instead of concentrating primarily on color, it brings flower shape and texture to the fore, helping homeowners make plant choices that come together in an aesthetically pleasing way.

The featured plants include both perennials and annuals, and all have been chosen for their ease of care, attractiveness to pollinators, and environmental friendliness. Carey also shares information on planning for year-round color and design strategies for a range of spaces.
