About The Program

Books can bring people of all ages and backgrounds together. They support cognitive development and improve language skills. They encourage imagination and creativity while also promoting concentration and discipline. They can empower children and young adults. But they can only do that if people of all ages and backgrounds have access to them. 

We know that books in the home is one of the most important indicators for a child’s potential for success. We know that a seemingly simple board book can help children under 5 build critical listening and visual skills. And we know that we can do more. 

Tree House Books is a Giving Library and Literacy Center based in North Philadelphia. They provide free books and literacy programs to children in historically marginalized communities across the city, but their mission is about so much more than just books. They’re not just inspiring young readers and writers; they’re helping to grow and sustain a community of thinkers and dreamers.

How It Works

Branching Out With Books aims to help even more children experience the joy of reading and pursue their dreams. Together, we’re working to build a bridge between our communities and give all children and families the opportunity to surround themselves with stories. 

• One-for-one Program: buy any board book and booked. will donate a board book to a child in need - inquire in the shop.

• Donation Program: bring and donate a gently-used book, and you’ll get 15% off a new book purchase. Books must be in reusable condition - no textbooks or periodicals, please.

• Featured Titles Series:  in 2023, booked. and Tree House Books announced a new featured titles series that highlights books that better represent the under-resourced communities Tree House Books supports. Please see our titles calendar below for more.
